If you do end up making a hackerspace, come join #nycresistor in freenode, and tell us about it. Also, if you have questions about how we did it, feel free to ask us!

Go for it! Check out hackerspaces.org for ideas that you can use in Illinois! Nick Farr (and a bunch of other lovely people) gave a talk at HOPE last week about how your excuses for not starting a space are invalid. Do it and let us know at NYCR how it goes!

I should investigate more about how speculation would look in a physical commodities market. You would suspect that inventories would be high in a market filled with speculation, inventories are not high. I do think people are too quick to blame speculators without any evidence or by making lousy arguments, but we have seen what I would call speculation in real estate and equities in the recent past. I am more willing to believe the speculator argument without much evidence than the argument that there is a giant conspiracy. So, in conclusion I do not know what to think about this recent rise in oil prices.

Almost any phone would costs a substantial amount over two years with service though, but I think it would be a leap to say that cell phones are hype or insanity.
